Photographing Rogers Park in 16:9

A New Chapter in Rogers Park, Chicago.

My wife and I just moved to Rogers Park, and as we’ve been getting to know the neighborhood, I’ve been bringing my Fujifilm GFX 100S II along for the ride. I wanted to do something a little different this time, so I started shooting in a 16:9 ratio, like what you’d see at the movies. There’s something cinematic about this place. The light hitting the buildings and the small moments happening on the sidewalks made me wonder what Rogers Park would feel like if it were a film, not just a photo series.

There’s something special about sharing your experience through photography, like it’s part of a movie. Life doesn’t always play out in perfect scenes or great lighting, but framing it like a film makes even the minuscule moments more meaningful. It helps me slow down and look at what’s before me. Photographing this way lets me tell a story, not just show what something looks like. It becomes more personal, like inviting people to see the world the way I see and feel it, one frame at a time.
